Ordinary vendors will not buy your silver items. To sell them, go to the Silver Trader in Svartrau City, unlock his shop with either Letter With a Tip or Infamy level 4, then choose the dialogue that acknowledges his silver trade. The check is simple: his shop inventory opens and the Sell tab accepts Silver Valuables. If he walks away or refuses to trade, the unlock condition has not been met.

Do not sell or discard the proof item first

  1. Keep the silver valuables you find in your inventory until the Silver Trader is unlocked. Silver is contraband in Vale Sangora, which is why ordinary merchants refusing it is expected behavior rather than a broken inventory.
  2. Check the item category before making a trip. This route applies to Silver Valuables, not every item with a grey or metallic-looking icon.
  3. If you have not unlocked the buyer yet, keep the goods and work on one of the two verified unlock methods below. Repeatedly visiting unrelated merchants will not make them accept silver.

Find the trader in Svartrau City

  1. Travel to Svartrau City and enter its southwestern side toward Neustadt. The written locations place the Silver Trader in this part of the fortified settlement rather than at an ordinary roadside shop.
  2. Follow the route through the guards to the building just past them, then enter and speak to the vendor. Use the conversation state as the location check: an initial refusal is normal when the silver trade has not yet been unlocked.
  3. Do not conclude that you found the wrong person merely because he refuses the first time. His refusal is part of the documented gate; leave only if the building and conversation do not match this trader at all.

Early route: unlock him with Letter With a Tip

  1. Complete Into the Den and loot its marked cache. The cache is the important completion check: beginning the quest or defeating its early enemy does not substitute for taking the cache contents.
  2. Read or keep the Letter With a Tip obtained from that route. It provides the evidence that lets Coen confront the Silver Trader about the illegal business.
  3. Return to the trader and choose “I know you trade in silver” when it is offered. The shop should open immediately if the letter route registered; this is the early route recommended by the cited guide when you do not want to raise Infamy just for one store.

This route is useful because it has its own verification chain: Into the Den completed, cache looted, letter acquired, then the dialogue unlocks the shop. If any link is missing, return to the last completed step instead of farming unrelated loot.

Alternative route: unlock him through Infamy

  1. The alternative is to reach Infamy level 4, labeled Notorious. The Silver Trader recognizes Coen at that threshold and agrees to do business without the letter.
  2. Use this route only when your current playthrough is already raising Infamy through its normal activities. The cited guide cautions that pursuing higher Infamy solely to open one shop can make movement through Vale Sangora harder.
  3. When you believe the threshold is reached, revisit the same trader and start a fresh conversation. If he still refuses, inspect your Infamy state rather than assuming that carrying more silver is the missing condition.

The two routes are alternatives. You do not need both the letter and Infamy level 4; use the one that matches your progress and keeps your current run on track.

Sell, then verify that the transaction worked

  1. Once the shop inventory opens, enter the Sell tab and select an item explicitly listed as a Silver Valuable. The successful sale removes it from inventory and adds the displayed denarii amount.
  2. If the item does not appear as sellable, confirm that it is truly a silver valuable and that you are using the Silver Trader's shop, not a normal vendor's menu.
  3. Check the trader's available funds before attempting to sell a large haul. The cited guide reports that his purse is finite; if he stops buying, return later after time has passed instead of assuming the silver has become unsellable.

Keep any silver you still need for a current objective. Selling is a separate action from acquiring or examining it, so use your journal to avoid turning in a quest-relevant item by mistake.

Fix the two common failures

If the trader still dismisses you, first check whether Into the Den's marked cache was actually looted; merely starting the quest is not enough. If you are using the Infamy route instead, confirm that the status has reached Notorious rather than stopping at an earlier band. Then leave the conversation and speak to him again.

If the shop is open but silver is not accepted, confirm the item label and the Sell tab. Regular goods may go to ordinary merchants, but the documented Silver Valuables route belongs to the Silver Trader. Those two checks separate an unopened shop from an item that was never silver contraband in the first place.
