The finish of Dead Drop is not in the cemetery. It is a stash below a fallen trunk in the uphill woods. Inspect the flower-covered old grave in the south of the outcast burial ground, sheath your weapon, and hold right mouse for Focus. Follow the tracks through two tree-carving checks. At the trunk, search beneath the carving behind the rocks, then read the letter and verify that the journal is complete.
Confirm the quest window and the right cemetery
- The written route places this in the Prologue after All Good Things and before Sacred Covenant. Check the journal first, so an ordinary graveyard is not mistaken for the starting condition.
- From Coen’s house, go uphill east to the outcast burial ground marked by a large tree. This is not the church cemetery; if you are beside the church walls, you are at the wrong cemetery.
- In the south of the clearing, find the old grave with flowers. Inspect the grave, flowers, and necklace in that order. Dead Drop should appear in the journal after that interaction.
Investigate the old grave before tracking
- Beside the grave, sheath your weapon and hold right mouse for Focus. When an interact or search prompt appears, use the binding shown on screen; use the live Controls prompt if you remapped it.
- The first tracks shown by Focus lead uphill into the trees. Do not choose a path at random from the cemetery edge: confirm that they leave the investigated grave, then follow the next visible segment.
- A missing track does not mean the route failed. Return to the last confirmed print or clue, activate Focus again, and scan forward instead of guessing from a distant tree.
Use tree carvings as route checkpoints
- The first trail segment ends at a carving on a tree. Approach and inspect it, then use that carving as the new reference point for the next group of tracks. Use the carving as the reference point for the next part of the route.
- Do not sprint in a straight line after the first carving. Follow Focus clues to the second carving and inspect it too. The alternating tracks and carvings are the route’s direction checks.
- If the journal does not advance, return to the most recent carving and make sure it was interacted with. Passing near it without the search action does not validate the next step.
Search below the fallen trunk, not on its surface
- Continue after the second carving until you reach the fallen trunk. Its symbol is a landmark, not the final interaction.
- Look under the carving for the area concealed by rocks. Check the trunk base, stash, and letter before leaving. If you only see wood and the symbol, lower the camera and inspect the base of the trunk.
- Search the stash using the on-screen prompt, take the contents, and open the Mysterious Letter. The letter finishes the investigation chain; do not leave after picking up the items alone.
Use the journal as the completion check
After searching the stash and reading the letter, open the journal and confirm Dead Drop is complete. The sources record no time-segment cost for this investigation. Reaching the trunk or seeing its carving is not completion.
If the cemetery does not trigger, confirm that you did not go to the church graveyard. If the tracks vanish, return to the last inspected carving and use Focus. If the trunk has no interaction, search the stash under it behind the rocks rather than its bark. Return only to the nearest unconfirmed checkpoint, so you do not have to rerun the whole hill.
PC keyboard and mouse quick check
Use the on-screen prompt to interact or search, hold right mouse for Focus while the weapon is sheathed, and press M for the map. This route does not need a fixed level, weapon, or combat value; its required order is the old grave, tracks, two carvings, the stash under the trunk, and the letter.
Optional story note: why read the letter?
The letter is the final investigation interaction. You do not need to identify its correspondents or infer later story events; use the journal state as the only completion check.
