Start at Gavril’s farm, follow the road northwest into the peat bogs, and use Focus from the abandoned cart to track Lazar. The trail ends at wolves guarding a pit; descend, follow the underground river, and continue through the ruins.

Requirements and timing

Complete All Good Things and finish Deep Down before Sacred Covenant. The route spends one time segment. Sources agree that entering earlier affects whether Lazar is alive, but disagree on the exact cutoff; the precise number of remaining segments is still uncertain. Entering before evening is the cautious choice.

Reach the pit

  1. Speak to Gavril at his farm near and east of Anca’s hut.
  2. Take the road northwest, cross the bridge, and continue toward the Blackwater area and the peat bogs.
  3. Find Lazar’s abandoned two-wheeled cart near the shrine. Activate Focus and follow the footprints past bridges, a dropped basket, blood, and wolf tracks.
  4. At two wolves beside a deep pit, fight or avoid them, then descend the ledges.

If the trail disappears, return to the cart or last clue and activate Focus again. The current PC default is to hold right mouse while your weapon is sheathed; remapped controls and the live prompt take priority.

Find Lazar underground

  1. Follow the only passage, take a torch if needed, and stay with the underground river.
  2. Squeeze through the narrow cleft and find Lazar, or inspect his body if you arrived late.
  3. Continue south and uphill through the opening into the constructed ruins. Investigation objects include a hound skeleton, unusual tracks, a corpse, and tablets, but the exit route continues deeper.

Mural chamber and bracers

  1. Follow the corridors and skeletal tracks to a circular chamber with a sarcophagus in the middle.
  2. Inspect the mural interactions around the left side of the room, then loot the central sarcophagus for the Mireleaf Bracers. Looting nearby urns alone does not collect them.
  3. Prepare equipment and take the eastern passage toward the exit hall.

Fight the Forgotten Guardian

The Guardian has an unblockable twin-blade attack. Dodge when its weapons show the attack warning. Against its normal sequence, use perfect blocks to create an opening, counter once or twice, and return to defense before it recovers.

The current PC defaults are W/A/S/D plus right mouse for a directional block and a movement direction plus Space to dodge. Bindings can be changed, and exact timing frames are not established, so follow your Controls screen and the live cue.

Exit and confirm completion

  1. Loot the Guardian after the fight, climb the far ledge, and follow the stairs outside.
  2. If Lazar lives, escort him or let him go home alone. Return to Gavril either way.
  3. Confirm that the journal marks Deep Down complete. Reporting to the village elder is optional follow-up dialogue.
Story outcome: what if Lazar is dead?

The quest can still be completed with a different report to Gavril. To pursue the rescue outcome, reload before the descent and enter earlier; the exact cutoff still requires direct confirmation.
