Check Charge after training, then plan Broad Swing and Swiftness separately. A manual removes a prerequisite; it does not equip or purchase the ability for you.
Manual route index
| Manual | Checkpoint | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Charge | Like Father, Like Son reward | Read and inspect Swordmastery |
| Broad Swing | Outlaw's Gorge camp bodies first | Container identity remains disputed |
| Swiftness | Separate camp route | Open the pickup guide |
Charge after training
- Continue from Withering Away into Like Father, Like Son and check the training reward.
- Read the Charge manual in inventory and find the matching Swordmastery node.
- Inspect remaining prerequisites, points and time costs before purchasing.
Broad Swing search order
- Approach the high-ground wooden cabin camp near Outlaw's Gorge, east of Laslea. Save before clearing the encounter.
- Search the Renegade Bruiser and outdoor bodies first. Dedicated manual and camp sources support corpses; another treasure article lists interior loot. The exact container is not consistently confirmed.
- If the bodies lack the manual, check the cabin containers. A treasure map is not the book: verify Broad Swing Manual in inventory before leaving.
ATH’s camp account identifies the leader by an open vest outside the cabin. Another account instead describes a body downhill from a thatched hut. These reports do not establish two distinct guaranteed copies. Keep the table’s treasure map separate from the manual pickup.
The articles also disagree on Broad Swing’s cooldown. Use your current ability panel for charges and cooldown; neither a different number nor reading an article with “2” in its address proves you have another skill rank.
An alternative source
If you have recruited a Swordmastery teacher, inspect their stock for Broad Swing. Verify the name before buying; do not assume an unrecruited teacher is already available. Random enemies are not a guaranteed replacement route.
Unlock Constantin instead of searching random drops
- Find the Soldier Camp in southwestern Rockfalls and defeat its leader, Constantin.
- When he offers instruction after the fight, accept and spare him. Defeating him and killing him are different outcomes.
- Open his trading dialogue and check for Broad Swing, Swiftness or Adrenaline Rush Manual. Read the purchased book before inspecting its skill node.
PowerPyx and ATH agree on this teacher route. Exact entrance coordinates, prices and stock refresh timing remain unverified here.
Drogos marker, but no trainer on the street?
ATH places him below Silberstein’s textile stall. Go behind the stall into the General Trader’s room, open the rear wooden door, descend the stairs and turn left toward the room with a ladder. Confirm Talk with Drogos; the trader or guard is not the trainer. This entrance lead does not establish every quest prerequisite or opening hour. Once accessible, check the actual manual stock before buying, then read and learn the intended skill.
Check Drogos's stock before Rise at Dawn
ATH's manual roundup says his shop closes when Rise at Dawn begins; that cutoff has not been independently verified here. If relying on him for a missing book, inspect and buy the named manual before committing to the finale, then keep a separate save. If already past that point, check another unlocked teacher's actual stock rather than assuming a wait will reopen the shop. See final assault preparation.
Cannot use the skill
Use the skill checklist to distinguish unread books, unpurchased nodes and form restrictions. Armor training is covered separately under Second Skin.
Precision: read, unlock, then vary attack direction
ATH reports a Precision Manual among the enemy loot near Briar Sloughs Watchtower; its exact drop remains unverified here. Search for the named manual rather than confusing it with the Regenerative Salve recipe.
- Read Precision Manual in inventory.
- At a usable Shrine, inspect Precision in Swordmastery. DawnwalkerDB lists Fate's Favour as its prerequisite; resolve the displayed requirements before purchasing.
- In combat, change the direction of successive directional attacks instead of repeatedly attacking from one direction.
A selectable node is not proof of purchase: check that it is learned. ATH and the database disagree on later-rank stamina and damage values, so compare your current tooltip before upgrading. This guide does not promise a fixed manual price or repeatable enemy drop.
Master Fencer: which teacher should you check?
ATH points to Drogos and Ocha, despite the article address mentioning Stoneward Post. Use the Drogos basement directions above, or complete Ocha’s quest and check her current location and trading dialogue. Her later availability remains disputed; do not assume every ending opens her shop.
Search the actual stock for Master Fencer Manual, then read it and inspect the corresponding Swordmastery node. Resolve the displayed prerequisites before learning it. Neither a guaranteed camp drop nor a reliable stock-refresh schedule is established here, so avoid spending days waiting for a promised copy.
Broad Swing learned, but its charge cost is too high
Check the ability card for HIGH ACTIVATION CHARGE COST. ATH documents an early-game state where Broad Swing is learned but costs more charges than Coen can hold. Compare the displayed cost with your maximum capacity, not only the charges currently filled. Recharging cannot exceed that maximum. Once capacity permits the skill, check its active slot and available charges again; another manual is not the stated fix for this warning.
