The safe Forgotten Guardian loop is simple: perfect-block normal swings, counter once, and immediately defend again. When both swords glow or the red-skull warning appears, stop blocking and dodge away from the unblockable spinning attack.
Reach the boss room
- During Deep Down, find Lazar and follow the underground river into the constructed ruins.
- Inspect the mural interactions in the circular tomb, then open the central sarcophagus and equip the Mireleaf Bracers.
- Take the east and southeast passage, turn left, and enter the long exit hall when you hear the roar. The Guardian blocks the route back to the surface.
The area commits you to moving forward. Quicksave before entering, equip your strongest current weapon and armor, and fill an empty arm slot with the bracers before starting the fight.
PC keyboard and mouse inputs
Open Esc → Settings → Controls to check or change bindings. The current defaults are W/A/S/D + left mouse for a directional attack, W/A/S/D + right mouse for a directional block, a movement direction plus Space to dodge, and middle mouse to lock on.
Right mouse by itself uses Omni Block. It chooses a direction for you but cannot produce a perfect block and always spends stamina. The counter loop below therefore uses directional blocks; follow your live Controls screen if you have remapped anything.
Use this repeatable fight loop
- Lock onto the Guardian and begin by defending. Read the incoming direction instead of opening with a long attack string.
- Against a normal swing, hold the matching direction and press right mouse. Aim for a perfect block so the boss exposes a brief counter window.
- Press left mouse for one counter, then defend again. Gamer Guides allows one or two counters, while PowerPyx recommends one for safety; one hit is the reliable first-clear option.
- When the twin swords glow or the red-skull warning appears, stop trying to block. Hold a direction away from the boss and press Space to leave the unblockable spinning attack's area.
- After dodging, wait until the spin finishes and the normal attack rhythm returns. Resume the “perfect block → one counter → defend” loop.
- Repeat until the health bar is empty. The reviewed sources do not establish a fixed number of blocks or a required kill time, so this guide does not invent either value.
Fix the two common failures
If the spin keeps hitting you, check that you are moving away while pressing Space. Blocking cannot stop this move, and a late or directionless dodge can leave you inside its area.
If normal attacks empty your stamina, you may be using Omni Block by pressing right mouse without a direction. Switch to matched directional blocks and keep counters to one hit. Direction indicators and Story or Fair difficulty can provide a safer place to learn the loop.
Loot and leave
- Loot the Guardian and verify that you collected the Undead Warrior’s Sword. Its item level can vary, so compare the actual drop rather than assuming a fixed level or guaranteed upgrade.
- Search the interactable chests, climb the ledge at the far end of the hall, and follow the stairs outside. The exit is ahead; do not keep searching the entrance for a return path.
- Speak with Lazar, escort him or let him return alone, then report to Gavril. The sequence is complete when the journal marks Deep Down finished.
Use the full Deep Down route if you have not reached the hall, or the Mireleaf Bracers location guide if the sarcophagus is the part blocking you.
