Obtain Crake’s personal request, travel to Tantari by day and follow Ascar between the marked hiding places. After reporting back, agree to speak with Crake when Drogos offers the follow-up; finishing the tail alone does not unlock the next relationship quest.

Check that Crake offered the personal request

  1. In What Hunts the Night, show concern during the refuge conversation. After What Moves the Dead, escort Crake home and offer wound care. These are the recommended earlier checkpoints; do not assume completing Who Pulls the Strings alone guarantees the request.
  2. Track Distant Shadows before travelling and read the active objective. If the request is absent, review the two earlier conversation checkpoints rather than assuming a trip to Tantari will start it.

  1. Go to Tantari during daylight and find the hut on the southern side. Observe Ascar through the window. Wait for him to go outside, then crouch behind the cart near the beehives.
  2. Follow at a distance to the barrels during his conversation, the cart near the shrine, then the snares and final tree. Move between cover as he moves away rather than closing in while he is stopped.

The hut, hive and woman are optional in PowerPyx. ATH describes feeding the dog and reading Last Will inside; PowerPyx warns that entering can reveal you to the dog. The conditions for safely searching the hut are not settled. For the optional hive inspection, PowerPyx describes taking the nearby bee smoker first. ATH also mentions rope in a forest crate; this optional pickup has not been independently confirmed. These detours should not be presented as mandatory progression.

Resolve the soldiers and return

  1. At the final tree, watch the soldiers’ encounter. ATH insists it must play uninterrupted; PowerPyx also permits intervening and fighting the pair. Likewise, PowerPyx says being spotted ends the observation early and sends you back, rather than failing the entire quest. Check your journal instead of assuming every detection requires reloading.

  2. Return to Marat at the hideout and report. After he leaves, speak with Drogos and choose “I’ll go talk to him.” PowerPyx identifies this response as necessary for A Closer Look; choosing to leave Crake alone does not grant it. Check for the new quest and follow Crake’s guide promptly.

The sources disagree about stealth failure and optional hut handling. This guide preserves those differences instead of promising a single universal outcome.
